A message from the CEO: December 2017

Here we all are in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season!   We very sincerely wish you happy, healthy holidays filled with fun and giving spirits!  We are continuing membership renewal for the 2018 year, preparing for the January 19th Membership Party in Oklahoma City to “Welcome the New Year,” and finalizing plans for the first Oklahoma Academy Awareness & Advocacy Afternoon February 6th at the Capitol that will culminate with the Legislators’ Welcome Reception that evening at the Oklahoma History Center! So, you could say we’re staying busy! Read on below for more information about upcoming events in early 2018, our plans to visit each of our membership regions this Spring and Summer, and various opportunities for you to get involved in “Moving Ideas Into Action!”

We have many important things planned for the 2018 year, so we want and need you as a member helping us improve Oklahoma!  There’s a lot of work to be done!  As our founder, Governor Henry Bellmon, believed, the more people aware of the major issues facing Oklahoma, the better our decisions will be in electing good state and local representatives and the more knowledgeable citizens will be in letting their elected officials know how they want them to vote on issues! If you haven’t yet renewed your membership for 2018, please take a moment to do so. You can do so online or contact Jamie Wade at As you’re wrapping up your holiday shopping and gifts, please consider an end-of-year tax deductible gift to the Oklahoma Academy. You can donate online

We’ll be issuing the findings and recommendations from the 2017 Town Hall addressing how best to improve the election process, voter access and informed engagement February 6th at the Capitol.  The 2018 Town Hall will focus on Revenue Enhancement and Tax Structure for Oklahoma --- a very timely and important focus!  It’s also a perfect follow-up focus from the 2015 Budget & Priorities Town Hall!   Your voices are important, so as members we will keep you posted on all that is going on from an awareness and an advocacy standpoint with the Action Alert emails that will begin with the 2018 legislative session. And with 2018 being a gubernatorial election year, don’t forget the Oklahoma Academy Gubernatorial Issues Forums that will be held in our six membership regions!  More information will be coming soon on these forums!

Involvement in the Academy can be at any level you want --- planning or attending community awareness meetings that keep you abreast of the findings of a recently held Town Hall conference, listening sessions to share your thoughts and ideas for an upcoming Town Hall, or outreach events to mix and mingle with fellow Academy members and introduce others to the organization; participating in the annual Town Hall conference; attending the August Salute – this year will be the 25th anniversary of this super fun networking event with entertainment by the Capitol Steps; or simply staying aware of the organizations activities and issue advocacy through updates and documents sent to you.  For more information about how to get involved in planning an outreach event, listening session or gubernatorial forum in your community or if you have an idea or concern to share, please reach out to us! You can email me at

Best wishes for a rich, warm and happy holiday season! We look forward to seeing you in 2018!
